An Apartheid Era Memoir: Much More than a Nostalgic Amble Down Memory Lane

Wheat Ridge, CO (PRWeb) December 4, 2006 -- Announcing the release of Shelley Wood Gauld's new book, "Much Bigger than Grownups: Chronicles of a Native South African." This 240-page 8.5 x 11-inch illustrated memoir is set in Apartheid era South Africa. ISBN: 978-1-4116-8217-7. Preview at http://www.lulu.com/grownupsbook.

"Shelley Wood Gauld's extraordinary account shines with wisdom, creativity and insight. Readers are taken on an international adventure into the rich cultures, religious diversity, lush geography and political turmoil of South Africa during the latter half of the twentieth century -- and then on to the USA. In the process, the author underscores striking interrelated aspects of the pioneering histories of these two countries. It is a fascinating sojourn that enlightens and educates as it entertains. Exotic places and endearing people come vividly to life through the eyes and heart of this Renaissance woman." Dr. Melanie Rosa

"Much Bigger than Grownups: Chronicles of a Native South African bears witness to someone who has striven to put more meaning into her life and 'more color on her wings'; and, thereby, more color into ours. Maps, artworks and vibrant authentic prose guide us through this memorable record of a life in progress." Prof. Dr. Lindy Stiebel (Professor of English Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa)

The release of "Much Bigger than Grownups: Chronicles of a Native South African" coincides with the release of the revised edition of Shelley Wood Gauld's first publication, "Return to the Fountainhead of the Faith" (ISBN 978-1-4303-0865-2). The two books are inextricably linked. "Return to the Fountainhead of the Faith," an illustrated reference work, explores 14 major world ideologies, the convoluted history of the Church and Christianity's Jewish roots -- its inherent "Jewishness." "Much Bigger than Grownups" is intended for a much broader audience. Together, the books feature reproductions of 115 of this writer-illustrator's original drawings and paintings.
